Shanghai, China - Tyre-cord-fabric maker Kordsa Global may expand production of nylon yarn - the raw material for tyre cords - at its Qingdao factory in China, says a company executive.
"Plants in Indonesia, Thailand and China are running at full capacity," said Cevdet Alemdar, Kordsa's global vice president of technology and market development.
Alemdar says Kordsa may expand production in China to serve customers including Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Pirelli, Bridgestone and Michelin.
So will Kordsa expand production of nylon at its plant in Qingdao, China? "We are studying that," Alemdar said. He declined to give any further details.
A car tyre typically contains half a kilogram of tyre cord fabric, he said.
Kordsa, which is based in Istanbul, Turkey, sold 45 000 tonnes of tyre-cord fabric in Asia last year. China accounted for 15 percent of that, Alemdar concluded.
