Momentive wins award for antimicrobial elastomers
ERJ staff report (DS)
Albany New York -- Momentive Performance Materials has received the 2010 Ringier Technology Innovation Award for its platform of StatSil silver-based antimicrobial silicone elastomers. StatSil high consistency rubber (HCR) and liquid silicone rubber (LSR) custom compound products can be considered for use in a variety of healthcare and consumer goods applications that benefit from built-in antimicrobial protection. The new technology is based on direct incorporation of a silver-based antimicrobial additive into the base silicone elastomer.
The technology innovation award program is sponsored annually by Ringier Trade Media, which publishes the leading plastics industry trade magazine in China, and judged by an independent panel of experts. The awards were established to recognise new technologies that have contributed significantly to the success of China's plastics industry.
Late last year, Frost & Sullivan awarded Momentive its coveted Product Innovation of the Year Award for the StatSil platform, highlighting design flexibility as one of StatSil's chief advantages. Based on specific applications, such as catheters and intravenous components, StatSil elastomers can be custom formulated to meet specific performance and processing requirements.
