Tokyo -- Tokai Rubber is setting up a rubber compounding unit in Thailand to serve the automotive industry. The new company will be a 75-25 joint venture with minority partner, Eastern Rubber (Thailand) Ltd, and will be called Tokai Rubber Compounding (Thailand), (TRCT). The company expects to establish the unit in the Thailand Industrial Park, Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate in Rayong Province.
The new investment is part of Tokai Rubber's 2012 group vision which sets out a policy of developing its automotive busienss in overseas markets. In order to meet the goals of this policy, said the company, it needs more mixing capacity.
TRCT, will be founded in June 2011 and is expected to start volume production in January 2013. The investment capital will be Baht 1000 million (euro 25 million). Output by 2015 will be around 1700 tonnes per month, and the unit will employ 40 perople.
Tokai said it expects a two-stage mixing process, beginning with black masterbatch and moving on to a second mix where the active ingredients are added.
Tokai said Eastern Rubber (Thailand) Ltd will set up a parallel plant in the same industrial estate.
