Firestone to close EPDM roofing plant in S Carolina, consolidate in Arkansas

Prescott, Arkansas -- Firestone Building products is to close its facility in Kingstree South Carolina, and transfer capacity and production to another North American facility, in Prescott, Arkansas. Both factories make EPDM sheets for the roofing industry. Local newspapers quoted a press release issued by the company late on Friday 7 Jan., but Firestone had not responded to requests for more information as ERJ posted this story.
The closure in South Carolina affects 190 people. Firestone said it would increase employment in Prescott by 100, to about 500, and move equipment from South Carolina to Prescott as part of the move, which is expected to be introduced steadily in the first half, and be complete by 1 July 2011.
