Yokohama goes solar at China plant
ERJ staff report (TB)
Hangzhou, China -- Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd.'s Hangzhou Yokohama Tire Co. Ltd. subsidiary is installing a solar power system at its plant in Hangzhou capable of generating 67,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
Hangzhou Yokohama is installing 729 100-watt photovoltaic panels, covering about 32,000 square feet of space, to provide power to the unit's head office adminstration building and guardhouse.
The solar panels will provide about 0.3 percent of the facility's electricity requirements, Yokohama said, and cut CO2 emissions by 94 metric tons per year.
Yokohama did not disclose the cost of the installation, which should be operational starting in February. The other solar-power projects are in place at the firm's tyre plants in Hiratsuka, Mishima and Shinshiro-Minami, Japan.
