Tyre sales boom continued into December

Milan, Italy -- Pirelli has updated its website with tyre sales for the month of December and the full year 2010.

The company reports car and truck tyre sales still growing around the world. The company reports only percentage changes, not absolute numbers.

Pirelli said European truck tyre replacement sales increased by 18 percent in the full year, but the December figure was up by 25 percent compared with a year ago. European OE figures were not available.

OE truck tyre sales in the NAFTA region increased by 30 percent in the full year, helped by 39 percent growth in the most recent month. On the replacement side the increase is 18 percent in the full year and 23 percent in December. The Mercosur region saw the OE sales up by 47 percent in the full year and by 27 percent in December. Replacement sales were up by 23 percent in the twelve months and 26 percent in November.

Truck tyre sales data for China is not yet available, but replacement sales in Japan showed 14 percent growth over the full year 2010 and 11 percent in the month of December.

In the car and light truck segment, European OE sales were up by 13 percent for the full year, and up by 10 percent in the month of December. Replacement sales were up by 8 percent in the full year and up by 15 percent in December.

North American (NAFTA) sales of car and light truck tyres continued to grow, but at a slower rate. On the replacement side, sales in the twelve months were up by 4 percent, and up by 3 percent in December. OE figures for December were not available. In the Mercosur region, OE sales were up by 13 percent in the full year but up by 12 percent in the month of December. Replacement sales were weaker, up by 11 percent in the year so far but down by 2 percent in the month of December.

Sales data from China were not yet available and will be updated in the coming days. Japanese sales of replacement tyres increased by 9 percent in the full year and by 6 percent in the month of december.
