Falken run-flat tire lasts 80km at zero pressure at 80km/h
Offenbach am Main, Germany – Falken Tyres has created a run-flat version of its ZIEX ZE914 Ecorun tire. Available this summer and suitable for cars configured for run-flat tires (including the BMW 1, 3 and 5 series), the tires are claimed to retain the “excellent” rolling resistance and wet weather characteristics of the standard version, as well as being capable of running for at least 80km at 80km/h at zero pressure.
Dimples (indentations) in the sidewalls are designed to dissipate heat more evenly, allowing the tire life to be extended by 17 percent when running at zero pressure.
Falken has widened both lateral and longitudinal tread grooves to improve resistance to aquaplaning. A stiffer outer shoulder is claimed to enhance cornering performance in dry conditions.
