Freudenberg develop FKM O-ring compound for 150°C

Freudenberg, Germany - Freudenberg Simrit presented its new range of FKM O-rings at the Hanover Trade Fair 2011, the company said 14 April.

Typically FKM O-rings used in applications such as the sealing of wet cylinder liners could only be used in cooling water at temperatures of up to a maximum of 125°C, according to Freudenberg.

However, the company says it has developed O-rings made from a new FKM compound called Coolant FKM, which can be used permanently at temperatures of up to 150°C, in cooling water and oil. The compound can also be used at temperatures of up to 180°Cfor short periods of time, Freudenberg said in a statement.

The compound sealing materials, which was developed specifically to meet high temperature requirements in internal combustion engines of all kinds, is manufactured without lead. It is for this reason, the German company said, that the new O-ring material is particularly safe for the environment from processing to the finished product to safe recycling.
