Zeon sold less elastomers in Q1

Tokyo -- Sales at Zeon Corp declined slightly in the three months to 30 June 2011, but the company's elastomer business saw a small increase in sales revenue, despite a fall in volumes.
Zeon's total sales in the quarter were yen 66,730 million (euro 603 million), down from yen 67,578 million a year earlier. The elastomers business saw sales rise by 2.5 percent to yen 43,987 million, compared with yen 42,915 million a year earlier.
Operating income in both the group and the elastomers business increased. Overall operating profits in the quarter were yen 11,825 million (euro 107 million), up by 13.3 percent from yen 11,825 million a year earlier. The elastomers business saw operating profits rise by 35.2 percent to yen 11,825 million, compared with yen 11,825 million a year earlier.
Within the elastomers business, the total sales volume declined to 136 000 tonnes compared with 145 800 tonnes recorded a year previously. Of the total, solid rubber contributed 75 700 tonnes worth yen 29 148 million. Latices contribued 33 600 tonnes, worth yen 5283 million
