Jiangsu tyres do not reach EU fuel economy standards
ERJ staff report (DS)
Jiangsu Province, China -- A long report on the website of China Rubber Industry Association (CRIA) says tyre makers from Jiangsu are finding it difficult to meet EU standards for tyres both for rolling resistance and for REACH.
The report suggests that the new EU regulations may be, "another malicious EU trade barrier", but even so, will improve the quality of Chinese-made tyres for those who succesfully meet the new standards.
The report says none of the local tyre makers can make tyres to reach the top EU rating for rolling resistance (A-rated), in summer tyres. WHile the companies can make tyres in the D rating category, these will prove difficult to sell int he EU market, said the report.
Spokesmen for various companies said that as global demand moves toward low rolling resistance tyres, the pressure from EU legislators will drive local manufacturers to move toward higher technology products perhaps a little dfaster than they might otherwise have done.
