Zeon awards contract for Texas HNBR plant
ERJ staff report (DS)
Houston Texas -- KBR said it was awarded a contract by Zeon Chemicals (Zeon) to provide construction management and construction services for its HNBR expansion project in Pasadena, Texas.
KBR will manage the first phase of Zeon's expansion plan, which will enable the plant to increase production of zetpol hydrogenated nitrile rubber - used in the production of items such as belts, seals, hoses, diaphragms and rolls for the automotive, oil field and roll industries - by 25 percent.
Zeon announced the expansion project in March of this year, saying the new capacity is due on stream in the first quarter of 2012. At the time, Zeon said, "The expansion will increase the plant's Zetpol production capacity by 25 percent. A previous expansion of the facility that increased production by 10 percent was completed in 2010, but more is needed as the Zetpol business continues its global growth to include applications in the transportation, oilfield exploration and production, and roller market segments."
