ERJ staff report (DS)
Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia's production of natural rubber (NR) declined in April. April's production of NR was recorded at 60,888 tonnes, down by 7 percent from a year ago and down by nearly 10 percent from the March figure.
Exports totalled 65,778 tonnes, down by a massive 33 percent from a year ago, but also down by 6 percent compared with the previous month. Standard Malaysian Rubber (SMR) contributes 94.8 per cent from the total exports where 52.2 per cent comprised of SMR 20.
The main destination for exports of NR were the People's Republic of China (40.2 percent), followed by Federal Republic of Germany (13.6 percent), Republic of Korea (4.5 percent), Brazil (3.9 percent), Portugal (3.4 percent), U.S.A. (2.9 percent), Netherlands (2.8 percent), Finland (2.3 percent) and United Kingdom (2.0 percent). The total exports to these countries accounted for 75.6 per cent of the overall NR exports.
If exports fell substantially, imports grew by the same percentages. In April, Malaysia imported 61,245 tonnes of NR, up by 32.6 percent on the year-before figure. NR was imported mainly from Thailand (65.8 percent), followed by Vietnam (8.3 percent), Philippines (5.4 percent) and Myanmar (3.5 percent).
