Schenectady, New York – SI Group has gained food contact approval from the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for two “next-generation” liquid phosphite antioxidants.
Weston 705 and Weston 705T have been approved for use as food grade substances in styrene block polymers and repeat-use elastomers, the company said 21 March.
The approval has been granted under conditions of use “A through H with concentration up to 0.5% by weight.”
The “toxicologically-clean” product protects colour and mechanical properties of polymers during the manufacturing, storage, and conversion processes, the company said.
SI Group was acquired by SK Capital Partners in last October and merged with Addivant - part of the equity firm’s portfolio since 2013.
The newly combined company, based in Schenectady, New York, trades under the SI Group brand.
It supplies additives, process ‘solutions’, pharmaceuticals and chemical intermediates to the plastics, rubber, fuel & lubricants industries.
