Brussels – European replacement tire markets continued a downward trend started in the previous quarter, figures from the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) show.
Almost all market segments showed a decline in demand during the third quarter of 2017, Brussels-based ETRMA reported 13 Oct.
For the three months to 30 Sept, replacement tires for passenger cars registered a 3% year-on-year drop in demand to 55.8 million units.
The third quarter also brought a further decrease of replacement truck tire sales. The sector registered a 7% year-on-year drop to 2.4m units.
The agricultural tire segment took a particularly steep plunge, continuing a negative trend already seen in 2016. In the third quarter, the segment registered a 25% year-on-year decline with 267,000 units sold.
