ERJ staff report (BC)
Fullerton, California – Mike McNulty of Rubber & Plastics News has updated on Yokohama’s six-year, three-phase expansion of its tire plant in the Philippines. The €398m project began in 2011 and will be completed in 2017. It will add 10 million units per annum of capacity, taking it to 17 million units per annum. Output is mainly intended for the North American market.
Phases one and two of the Philippines project consist of adding 300 000 square metres to the 160 000 square metre facility. The expansions will eventually take the plant to 460 000 square metres, about 2.8 times larger than its original size. The factory workforce will grow significantly.
The first phase was completed in February and adds a projected 3m tires per annum to the factory’s capacity. The second phase will boost capacity by an estimated 2.5m tires per annum when it is finished in 2015.
