ERJ staff report (BC)
Osaka, Japan – Toyo Tire & Rubber Co., Ltd. held an opening ceremony on 8 May for its new tire plant in Malaysia.
The plant is expected to produce 2.5m tires annually by the end of 2013, rising to 5m per annum by 2015. Toyo says there is enough space on the site to expand production to 10m tires per annum eventually.
At the ceremony Toyo Tire chairman and representative director Kenji Nakakura said: “We will take full advantage of Japanese technology in order to achieve Japanese quality here in Malaysia and supply world-class, high-performance, fuel-efficient tires from this plant.”
Toyo is “making progress toward building a three-region global supply system … North America, Japan and Asia.”
