Richfield, Ohio — Nexen Tire America Inc. is moving forward with plans for a new technical centre, to be built in Richfield, just a few blocks from the research facility it opened in 2008.
Nexen, the US sales subsidiary of South Korea's Nexen Tire Corp., plans to break ground on the 34,000-sq.-ft. building on 17 Oct.
Nexen said the facility will house offices, labs, test machines and a warehouse. It also will provide innovative technologies for developing tires for the American OE and replacement markets.
Richfield is a village of about 3,650 residents located between Cleveland and Akron near the I-77 and I-271 interchange.
Nexen announced plans in 2015 to build the tech centre, where it expects to employ up to 30 technicians, or nearly double the staffing of the existing centre. Nexen at that time said it was budgeting $7 million for the project.
