Carrick-on-Shannon, Ireland – Freudenberg Group’s medical business is expanding its catheter manufacturing facility in the Republic of Ireland, the German group announced earlier this month.
The company will be investing €9 million at its Carrick-on-Shannon site, extending it by 45,000 square feet and adding four new ISO class 7 cleanrooms for contract manufacturing of minimally-invasive devices.
In 2010, Freudenberg acquired a 50% share in VistaMed, which supplies catheter systems and assembly services, and minimally-invasive devices.
“This latest expansion is evidence of the strong demand for VistaMed products and services,” said Patrick Mulholland, managing director of VistaMed.
The investment follows the construction of a €10-million R&D centre at the site in October last year.
Freudenberg said it will be investing worldwide in the development of its footprint in the medical technology industry, as part of a long-term strategy.
