Volvo plugging for recycled carbon black
Gottenburg, Sweden - Volvo Cars started using rubber compound containing rCB in chassis plugs in early 2016 and has since significantly increased its use of the filler, reports rCB supplier Scandinavian Enviro Systems AB (Enviro).
The rCB material was developed by Enviro in cooperation with AnVa, using scrap tires and waste rubber from AnVa’s own factory. Adoption by Volvo required extensive testing to verify that it met the car maker's technical standards and was an effective substitute for virgin carbon black.
"Today, components using Enviro's recycled carbon black are to be found in Volvo cars across the entire world, and the volumes are increasing," said Thomas Sörensson, Enviro's CEO.
"The fact that a world-leading vehicle manufacturing company such as Volvo Cars has chosen to use Enviro's recycled materials is very important in negotiations with all our interested parties. Interest is increasing in both the carbon black product and the recycling technology", he added.
There will be an in-depth look at developments in the area od pyrolysis and recycled carbon black in the May/June issue of European Rubber Journal magazine.
