Used-tire collection hits record level in France
Lyon, France – French end-of-life tire management company Aliapur has reported a record 2016 with the collection of over 334 597 tonnes of tires – equivalent to 44.2 million passenger car tires.
A high point came in June, with the collection of 30,700 tonnes, equivalent to around 4 million car tires, Aliapur also noted in a 22 March statement. The spike was linked to an increase in the number of drivers changing tires ahead of the holiday season.
The June figure, said the group, is only the second time since it’s formation that the 30,000-tonne mark has been exceeded – the other being in October 2014, when 30,200 tonnes were collected.
In a subsequent announcement, issued 27 March, Aliapur reported that 59,564 tonnes of used tires had been collected in first two months of 2017. This followed the collection of 28,382 tonnes, equivalent to 3.75 million car tires, in February.
