Akron, Ohio – Continental Tire the Americas and Trelleborg Wheel Systems Americas Inc. are raising tire prices in the US and North America, respectively.

Conti's increase is for Continental- and General-branded passenger and light truck tires, by up to 7% effective May 1. Conti raised prices 1 March in the US and Canada on its Continental-, General-, and AmeriSteel-brand truck tires by up to 8%.

Conti cited the "continued escalation of raw materials, energy, and logistics costs associated with the production and distribution of passenger and light truck tires" for the need to raise prices.

The increase will vary across marketing lines and tire sizes.

Trelleborg is raising prices on its farm and forestry tires in North America by 8%.

The price increase takes effect 1 April and covers Trelleborg-branded tires for agricultural, forestry and light agricultural applications.

The increase is the result of recent hikes in raw material prices, the company said.

Trelleborg is the 20th tire maker and/or importer to have raised prices or announced price increases since early January.

Others that have announced in the past few days include: Alliance Tire America Inc.; Giti Tire (USA) Ltd.; Maxam Tire North America Inc.; Pirelli Tire North America/TP Commercial Solutions LLC; and Titan International Inc.
