Trelleborg, Sweden – Trelleborg’s industrial anti-vibration solutions operation expects to complete its delivery of suspension systems to a “multi-million pound” tram project in Turkey’s Kayseri within the first quarter of 2017, the company has confirmed to ERJ.
The project, which involved the delivery of 1,200 primary and secondary suspension springs to Turkish rail supplier Bozankaya, is 50% complete, Trelleborg added.
The two companies struck a deal in 2014 to supply more than 30 trams to Kayseri’s municipality, with Bozankaya in charge of manufacturing the 33-metre long standard-gauge light rail vehicles for the project.
Once fully operational, the trams will accommodate 392 passengers each and increase daily capabilities of the tramway to over 150,000 people.
The primary Metacone springs are compact suspension units, which deliver longer service life, reduced maintenance and increased passenger comfort and reliability compared to conventional products.
Hourglass springs, which were supplied for secondary suspensions, expedite the need for complex air supply systems, said Trelleborg.
The suspensions are made from high grade, solid rubber offer high load capacity for passenger comfort.
