Tokyo – Kuraray Co., PTT Global Chemical Public Co. and Sumitomo Corp. have agreed to carry out a joint feasibility study for potential development of manufacturing and sales of butadiene derivatives in Thailand.
The study will look into the installation of a 13 kilotonne per annum (kpta) capacity for high heat resistant polyamide-9T and 16 ktpa capacity for hydrogenated sytrenic block copolymers (HSBC) in Hemaraj eastern industrial estate, Rayong, by late 2020.
The companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in regard to the project in September 2015.
“The three partners have decided to move forward the project to early phase of engineering study to perform front end engineering design,” said a 13 Sept statement by Kuraray.
The final investment decision is to be made in the end of 2017.
Equity proportions and other details of the agreement are still being discussed.
PTT will supply the key raw material butadiene to the project.
