New passenger car demand up in Europe for 34th consecutive month

Brussels – European new passenger car registration grew for the 34th month in a row in June, posting a strong 9.4 percent growth in the first half of the year.
The latest figures from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association found that demand for new cars rose by 6.9 percent in June, reaching 1.459 million units.
In volume terms, these results come close to the June 2007 highs before the economic crash.
Among the major markets, Italy and Spain posted double-digit growth followed by Germany.
Markets in France were flat while the UK saw a slight drop of 0.8 percent.
For the first half-year, a total of 7.84 million units were sold across Europe, with Italy posting 19.2 percent growth, followed by Spain at 12.5 percent. France, Germany and the UK also witnessed growth during the first six months of 2016.
