Essen, Germany – Evonik AG has broken ground on a multi-million-euro speciality silicones production facility in Shanghai, China, the company has announced.
The project, said Evonik on 22 March, is set to complete by mid-2017 and will produce organically modified speciality silicones at the multi-user-site in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park.
The company did not disclose the amount of the investment but said it was in “high double-digit million euro range”.
The new site follows Evonik’s expansion at its production plant in Essen in late 2014.
“We want to expand our specialty silicones production capacities in Asia to serve the rising demand with local production,” said Klaus Engel, the chairman of the Evonik executive board, during the groundbreaking ceremony in Shanghai.
