Mexico automotive sector buoys CDC, Davis-Standard

Mexico City — CDS Inc. and Davis-Standard LLC, which often work together on complete extrusion lines in Mexico, are exhibiting together at Plastimagen in Booth 1014 — the exhibit of manufacturers representative Grupo Janfrex SA de CV.

Davis-Standard makes extruders, and CDS makes downstream equipment, including sizing tanks, pullers and cutters.

And, like many Plastimagen exhibitors, officials of CDS and Davis-Standard said Mexico’s growing automotive sector is driving sales.

One example is car sealing gaskets for windows and trunks, said Alexandro Dicivita, CDS’ international business manager.

CDS makes downstream equipment to handle processing the seals from EPDM rubber and thermoplastic elastomers.

Other automotive markets include brake lines and fuel lines.

“There are a lot of plants going up. It’s growing, and it’s an evolving market,” Dicivita said. “We do see continued growth.”

Other big markets for CDS equipment include Profiles, pipe and tubing.

Jesus Avelar, owner of Grupo Janfrex, said the supply base is growing, but still has a big potential for more growth.

Avelar cited the 80-20 principle when it comes to Mexico: “Eighty percent of companies have old technology and 20 percent of the companies have world-class technology—you go in some companies, you can eat off the floor.”
