Clermont-Ferrand, France – Michelin has been awarded the “gold class sustainability award 2016” by Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI), the French tire-maker has announced.
“This distinction rewards Michelin on a global level for its contribution to reduce greenhouse gases emission and appoints us as the company that has achieved the largest improvement last year among all the other auto components suppliers,” said Michelin.
The tire-manufacturer said that its efforts were not focused on reducing only greenhouse gases emission, but also the gases produced when using Michelin tires.
The company said that it aimed to reduce its carbon footprint of products by 20 percent between 2010 and 2030.
Transport, according to Michelin, is single-handedly responsible for 15 percent of worldwide greenhouse gases emission.
