Adidas gives TPUs the boot

Herzogenaurach, Germany — Adidas has introduced a football boot, which is fastened with a new thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU ) in-shoe lock system instead of conventional laces.

The Ace 16+ PureControl boot contains a TPU cage that locks together inside the boot holding the foot in place.

Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil and Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic wore them on the field for the first time on 23 Jan, the company reported.

The boots retail at €300.
