Tire manufacturers back EU automotive initiative
Brussels – The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) has supported moves by the European Commission (EC) to study and improve the competiveness of the EU automotive industry.
Welcoming the plan, the ETRMA said that it looked forward to working with the group and helping it identify the policy and legislative measures needed to boost the industry’s competitiveness and growth.
“The European tire industry being the most and the earliest regulated area within the automotive sector is surely able -and willing- to accept any new mobility challenges in the mid to long term...,” said an ETRMA statement on 28 Jan.
The tire body went on to urge European institutions to take care of the manufacturing base and the employment it provides.
Calling for a change in the mind-set of European regulators, ETRMA argued that the new group should try to make EU legislation “workable” in terms of market surveillance and connecting consumers with proven high quality products.
