Gurgaon, India – Production at Apollo’s tire plant in Oragadam has been hit by recent flooding and rains in Chennai, India, according to a company filing at Bombay Stock Exchange.
“The production was disrupted in 3 shifts till 2 Dec,” said the filing adding that the production loss was approximately 450 tonnes.
According to the company, Apollo’s insurance policy adequately covers the natural disaster.
Heavy rains and flooding have paralysed the Tamil Nadu city of Chennai since late November and at least 188 are known to have died in floods.
Apollo announced in August that it was planning to expand its truck and bus radial facility in Chennai with an investment of €380 million over the next two to three years.
The project is expected to take the truck-bus radial capacity at Chennai from its current 6000 tires per day to 12,000 tires per day. The plant, he noted, also produces 16,000 passenger car tires per day.
