Clermont-Ferrand, France – Group Michelin’s long-time leader François Michelin has passed away at the age of 88, the company announced 29 April.
François Michelin headed the company for 47 years, before handing over the reins to his son Edouard in 1999.
Paying tribute, CEO Jean-Dominique Senard said the Michelin group founder was “universally respected for his values, his convictions, and his vision."
François Michelin was also described as a "visionary and a humanitarian, [who] tirelessly embodied the values of respect that are the very foundation of our group’s identity.
"Under his leadership, Michelin experienced unprecedented growth, driven by his passion for innovation as well as his uncompromising attention to quality. He transformed the group by giving it an international dimension."
