Carlisle, UK - Pirelli will enter a plea in early January in a case brought against it concerning the death of a worker in an industrial steam oven, the News & Star has reported from Carlisle Crown Court.
As reported previously by ERJ, the fatal incident occurred at Pirelli’s Carlisle facility on 30 Sept 2012. A case was subsequently brought against the company by the UK Health & Safety Executive (HSE).
After the incident, the company issued a statement explaining that it had assisted police and the HSE with their investigations into the fatality.
The company noted that checks had shown that the autoclave was in normal working order and that police had concluded that no criminal acts had taken place. There were, it added, no work-related reasons for the worker entering the autoclave.
