Chrysler goes with Falken tires for two Jeep models

Kobe, Japan – Chrysler Group has selected the Falken Ziex ZE 914 EcoRun as an original equipment fitment on Jeep Compass and Patriot models being sold in various markets outside of the US and Canada, according to Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI), owner of the Falken brand.

The contract marks Falken North America’s first contract to supply OE tires to a vehicle maker, SRI said.

The ZE914, introduced to the North American aftermarket in early 2013, was designed to provide excellent rolling resistance while also combining great handling and wear performance.

The tires will be sourced from Sumitomo Rubber’s plant in Rayong, Thailand, and supplied to Chrysler’s assembly plant in Belvidere, Illinois.

The contract covers the supply of size 215/60R17 tires for 2015-model Compass and Patriot models to be sold in Australia, China, Mexico and other, unnamed export markets, SRI said.

Chrysler offers right-hand-drive models for those markets that require it, SRI said. The Jeep comes with either gasoline or diesel engines.

Falken said the ZE914 EcoRun generates 20-percent less rolling resistance than the Ziex ZE912. The EcoRun badge is reserved for Falken tires developed with optimised fuel efficiency, the company said.
