Taiwan 'examines LCY pipeline link' to fatal blasts

Kaohsiung, Taiwan – Authorities in Taiwan are investigating the possibility that a leak in an underground pipeline supplying propylene to LCY Chemical Corp. had caused a series of explosions at Kaohsiung on 31 July, Chemical Week has reported.
In an update issued 2 Aug, the Taiwan government said the blasts had killed 28 people, including four police officers and volunteer firefighters. Two people still were missing and 286 were injured.
The Taipei government said it had instructed its central ministries to collaborate closely to provide disaster relief and discover the causes of the incident.
