Dunlop launches StreetResponse2
ERJ staff report (TP)
Birmingham, UK − Dunlop’s new StreetResponse2 is designed to accomplish shorter braking distances and improve overall mileage on the UK’s most popular vehicles. The tire is available in 13, 14 and 15 inches; and fits four out of the five top selling vehicles in 2013 including the Ford Fiesta which sold more than 72,000 units.
“When developing the StreetResponse2, we wanted to ensure that we delivered a Dunlop tire, that can boast similar performance capabilities to our ultra-high performance tires”, said Andy Marfleet, Dunlop’s brand manager. “The solid grip in both wet and dry conditions reflects the ongoing efforts by Dunlop engineers to offer performance without compromise.”
To help drivers better manage wet road conditions, a new cavity shape with more rounded footprint was developed to cut through the surface water layer more efficiently, while an optimised tread design with twin wide circumferential grooves help to absorb water from the road surface. Further supporting a solid grip on wet are multiple lateral grooves designed to evacuate water from the tread. The technologies help to reduce the potential for aquaplaning and shorten braking distance on wet roads compared to its predecessor.
On dry surfaces, the Dunlop StreetResponse2 is equipped with a solid centre rib, which provides enhanced grip during lateral manoeuvres. Multiple blades and grooves ensure enhanced grip and dry braking while the overall construction and light weight of the tire deliver a lower rolling resistance.
“The trend towards smaller vehicles is born out of the increasing focus towards fuel efficiency and reducing running costs”, said Marfleet. “As vehicle manufacturers strive towards improving the performance of smaller models, Dunlop has risen to the challenge by delivering a product that combines performance with 10 percent improved overall mileage compared to its predecessor.”
The result of these enhancements, as compared to the first StreetResponse tire is that the new product delivers a shorter braking distance in both wet and dry conditions. Overall the tire delivers a 6 percent better wet braking performance versus its predecessor, which equates to 2m shorter braking distance from 80km/h to 0km/h on wet road and a 4 percent better dry braking performance versus its predecessor or a 1.5m shorter braking distance from 100km/h to 0km/h on dry road.
StreetResponse2 comes with a B-label on wet grip and C-label on rolling resistance making it one of the “best graded” tires in its category on the European market today.
