ERJ staff report (BC)
Cardiff, UK – At Wales Online, Rhodri Morgan offers a tip for protecting growing potato plants from the unseasonably late frosts which the UK is experiencing.
Morgan stacks one end-of-life tire on top of another and fills the bottom one with fresh horse manure. The top tire is filled with an earth/compost mixture, with one potato planted in a small-diameter tire or two in larger ones.
Morgan reports a good success rate in protecting the tender plants from frost.
He said: “I swear to you that this is not an attempt to grow ready-made crinkle-cut chips [fries]!"
