Tire degradation to play major role in Formula 1 2013
ERJ staff report (LMH)
London – McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh says that tire degradation will be a major factor for the teams in this year’s Formula 1 contest, Sky Sports reports.
He made the comments after 12 days of pre-season testing, noting that all teams appeared to be struggling with tire graining and tire degradation, which could play a large part in the outcome of the races in China, for example. However, he said the racing engineers are considering this graining to be a cold weather phenomenon that may not translate to the conditions in all locations .
Sky Sports added that pre-season reporting gave very few clues on which team would set the early season pace. The 2013 season is due to kick off on 17 March with the Australian Grand Prix.
