Rubber gloves gain on falling latex prices
ERJ staff report (LMH)
The rubber glove industry in Malaysia will benefit from the continuing slide in latex prices and the weakening ringgit against the US dollar, according to the Business Times in Malaysia.
The news website cited research that said latex prices would continue to fall throughout the year, trending at between RM 5.50-6 per kg over the last 6 to 9 months. The decline in raw material prices could help improve glove makers margins, with the benefit eventually being passed down to purchasers via lower average selling prices, the Business Times quoted Kenanga Research as saying.
The research company also said another positive factor for the industry with the weakening of the ringgit against the US dollar, since glove sales are typically dollar-dominated.
