Michelin partners BMW for sports car racing
ERJ staff report (BC)
München - The works-supported BMW Z4 GT3 sports cars at the Nürburgring 24 Hours event and the Z4 GTEs in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) will take to the track with Michelin as their tire partner for the 2013 season.
The collaboration began with joint testing in January, say the companies, in preparation for the maiden race outing on 16 March 2013 at the 12 Hours of Sebring.
Testing determined the operating “windows†and optimum pressures for the various slick tires, and the set-ups of the new cars.
The Sebring event traditionally kicks off ALMS.
Three different compounds for slicks (hard, intermediate and soft) will be available for the BMW Z4 GTE in ALMS, as well as a compound for wet weather tires from Michelin's “Ultimate†range.
