Edge Rubber lands Pennsylvania workplace safety award
ERJ staff report (BC)
Chambersburg, Pennsylvania - Officials from the Pennsylvania Department of Labour and Industry presented tire recycler Edge Rubber with the Governor's Award for Safety Excellence on 17 December.
Edge Rubber, which produces rubber powder, has not had a "time lost" accident in nine years, which state official Liz Crum said was evidence that safety was a priority at the Progress Road plant.
"All the employees should be proud," said Sam Kauffman, vice president and chief operating officer. "We're going through a $6.2 million expansion, and it might be easy for a lot of people to lose focus, but through all that we were able to get to nine years without a time-lost accident. It's a great accomplishment for all employees."
Edge Rubber employs about 50 people and has been operating 24-hour shifts since 2010.
