Cheng Shin boosts retreading presence throughout Asia

Penang, Malaysia-Taiwan's Cheng Shin Rubber Ind. Co. Ltd. is expanding its presence in truck tyre retreading throughout Asia in partnership with Malaysian retreader and truck tyre service company Kian Hon Tires Sdn. Bhd.
Cheng Shin-which does business as Maxxis International-and Penang-based Kian Hon are working together to set up a truck/bus radial “education center,†expand Kian's retreading activities, and assist Maxxis partner companies in Indonesia and the Philippines in setting up retread plants.
Maxxis and Kian Hon put the value of their collaborative effort, which also includes establishing tread rubber production at Kian Hon's new plant in Nibong Tebal, Malaysia, at $20 million. The projects include expanding Kian Hon's retread capacity to 120,000 units a year and will create 200 to 400 jobs, Maxxis said.
