IAA: Bridgestone's new TPMS system and more
ERJ staff report (DS)
Frankfurt, Germany -- Bridgestone is rolling out an innovative TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) across Europe. With service provision supplied by Truck Point, tyres requiring attention are not only identified but also serviced.
“From internal studies we can see that fleets have on average up to 25% of tyres running with pressure at least 10% below recommended levels and up to 5% with pressure at least 20% below†says Neil Purves, Senior Manager, Business Innovation, Commercial Products Division, Bridgestone Europe. “With this 'average' pressure condition, fleet fuel consumption would be 0.6% higher than if all tyres were running at recommended pressure levels.â€
The valve-mounted sensor sends out a signal every 6 seconds and has a battery life of at least 3 years. Three versions have been developed to allow optimal fitment whatever the wheel position on the truck or bus. The sensor sends pressure and temperature data as well as an ID allowing the corrected pressure to be attributed to the specific vehicle and wheel position.
The company is also progressively replacing its top-selling R297 steer and M729 drive tyres with newly-developed R-Steer 001 and R-Drive 001 truck tyres for regional application in Europe. The new tyres are designed for robustness in versatile usage, providing high-level performance and a long lifecycle in a wide range of operating conditions.
Bridgestone has also developed Total Tyre Care - which it describes as a flexible range of complementary truck tyre programmes designed to provide fleet customers with complete peace of mind.
“Total Tyre Care is designed to let fleets concentrate on their core business and take the worry out of tyre management, knowing that Bridgestone is minimizing their tyre costs†says Harald Van Ooteghem, Senior Manager, Marketing Planning, Commercial Business Unit, Bridgestone Europe.
