Austrian tyre chain maker Pewag to build US plant

Pueblo, Colorado - Pewag International GmbH, an Austrian producer of tyre chains, has picked Pueblo to be the site of its first North American manufacturing location, a 55,000-sq.ft (5110 sq.m) plant that will employ 55 at startup.
The company, considered one of the leading tyre chain makers worldwide, will break ground Sept. 28 on the plant, to be built in the Minnequa Industrial Park south of Pueblo. Pewag did not disclose the plant's cost, capacity or construction timetable.
Pewag Inc. President Mike Uhrenbacher cited “access to the supply chain, skilled and qualified workforce, training capabilities with Pueblo Community College, tireless support from Pueblo Economic Development Corp.†and undisclosed economic incentives from the city of Pueblo for his company's selection of Pueblo as the site for this factory.
Graz, Austria-based Pewag has been making snow chains in Austria since 1912 and today makes chains in three key sectors: traction or snow chains, industrial chains and tire protection chains. The company does not disclose annual sales.
The company has had a distribution subsidiary in the U.S. since 1975 and today Bolingbrook, Illinois-based Pewag Inc. has distribution centers in Rocklin, California, and Bolingbrook as well as affiliated distributor locations across the country.
