Sales, profits increase at Sumitomo in first half

Kobe, Japan -- Sumitomo Rubber Industries has reported strong increases in sales and profits for the six months ended 30 June 2012.
Net sales in the six months increased to yen 333,734 million (euro 3466 million) from yen 300 billion a year ago. Operating income jumped to yen 32.3 billion from yen 19.8 billion in the same period in 2011.
In the tyre segment, sales increased to yen 288 billion from yen 258 billion a year earlier. Operating income increased to yen 28.0 billion compared with yen 18.0 billion a year earlier
In the Sports segment, sales increased to yen 1.7 billion from yen 28.3 billion. Operating profit more than doubled to yen 3.44 billion from yen 1.2 billion.
In the Industrial goods segment, sale increased to 14.1 billion from yen 13.7 billion. Operating income went up to yen 853 million from yen 565 million.
