Conti UK very concerned about enforcement of tyre labelling
ERJ staff report (DS)
London - David Smith, managing director ofContinental Tyre Group Ltd has said he is very concerned about the lack of clarity on the enforcement of tyre labels which come into force from November 2012.
Currently, there is no decision from the UK government about which organisation wil be responsible for enforcing the new legislation. Smith said it is very important that tyre makers know who will be the enforcement authority in the UK and elsewhere and that the label and enforcement of the testing behind the label are taken seriously. "Without enforcement you can print what you want on the label," he said.
We have been waiting for some time for the [UK] government to decide who will be responsible for the enforcement the legislation, said Smith. He said he was not aware of any timescale as to when that announcement will be made.
