Indian tyre maker installs guided vehicles
ERJ staff report (DS)
Grimsby, Ontario - an unidentified Indian tyre maker has bought a fleet of 11 Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs). The AMRs are fitted with green tyre carriers and will be used to automatically collect and transport truck and bus radial (TBR) tyres from the building machines to the painting station. The system will be installed and operational for the manufacturer in the fourth quarter of 2011.
The AMRs are part of the Adam range, supplied by RMT Robotics and sold by its Indian partner, LTM Business Unit, part of the Machinery and Industrial Products Division of Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T).
“We are thrilled to make our first Adam sale to a major Indian tire manufacturer,†said S Arul, head of marketing, customer service and testing, LTM. “It is great to see an Indian manufacturer embrace the concepts of Lean manufacturing and employ an advanced materials handling solution such as Adam. It's proof positive that Indian manufacturers are prepared to invest in world-class technology to become world-class manufacturers.â€
