Goodyear declares force majeure on butadiene-related products
ERJ staff report (R&PN)
Akron, Ohio -- Goodyear has declared force majeure on its chemical products-including SBR-that use butadiene because of supplier shortages of the monomer.
“â€While we are working diligently to identify and obtain alternative sources of butadiene monomer supply, at this time we do not know how long the situation will last,†Goodyear said.
Butadiene shortages in the US are being caused by a turnaround by one producer, production issues from earlier in the year by another producer and limited exports of crude C4 oil, the main feedstock for butadiene, according to ICIS, an online chemical and synthetic rubber information service.
ICIS lists major domestic producers of the monomer as ExxonMobil Chemical, LyondellBasell Industries, Shell Chemical Co. and TPC Group.
