Yokohama breaks ground in Philippines
ERJ staff report (DS)
Tokyo - Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., has held a ground breaking ceremony for the construction of its new tyre plant in the Philippines.
In January this year, Yokohama Rubber announced the plan to expand the annual production capacity of the Yokohama Tire Philippines, Inc. (YTPI) by 2.4 times to 17 million tyres from the current 7 million by 2017. Yokohama Rubber has already signed an agreement with Clark Development Corporation (CDC) to lease 300,000 square meters of the land adjacent to the existing tyre plant.
YTPI was formed in 1996 as a base for manufacturing passenger-car tyres for export markets. At present the company manufactures passenger-car and SUV tyres with the inner diameters of 13 to 18 inches and exports most of the tyres to Europe, North America and ASEAN Countries as consumer products and the rest to North American and Asian automotive manufacturers on an OEM basis.
