Saudis set up elastomer technology institute to develop elastomer industry

Akron, Ohio, - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is to establish an elastomer technology vocational training institute in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. This will be part of the plan to establish and develop Elastomer industries, within the Kingdom's program to encourage economic diversification.
The High Institute for Elastomer Industries (HIEI) will be located in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. It will be supported by the University of Akron, through The University of Akron Research Foundation (UARF). In addition Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) and affiliates of ExxonMobil Chemical will work with Saudi educational institutes to deliver programmes for locals.
A range of jobs is being advertised to Saudi Nationals., The group will work as trainers at HIEI after receiving training for two years in the US at the University of Akron in the city of Akron, Ohio. The University specializes in Elastomer Industries.
The HIEI will train local graduate participants to establish and maintain a highly-skilled workforce for the elastomer conversion industry. The institute will have its first student intakein September 2012.
UA is offering "train-the-trainer" instruction in elastomer technology to Saudi engineers and chemists to become HIEI instructor-candidates. The project began in 2008 and is underway with the participants in their second year of training. Upon completion of the program, these participants will return to Saudi Arabia to assume various roles at the HIEI.
