    ERJ staff report (DS)

Tokyo, Japan -- Sumitomo Rubber Industris has announced plans to build a car tyre factory in Brazil, due on stream in October 2013. The company issued a press release on 17 May, saying the plant will be in Fazenda Rio Grande City, Parana State and have a capacity of around 15 000 radial-ply passenger car tyres daily. The project represents an investment of Real 560 million (euro 242 million).

SRI said it will establish a new wholly-owned subsidiary -- Sumitomo Rubber do Brasil Ltda. -- to make the tyres and this will be established from July 2011. The company will make and sell radial passenger tyres.

The factory site will have an area of 500,000 m2
